Health and Safety policy
Mayfair Movers Health and Safety Policy
Mayfair Movers is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, customers, and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with domestic and commercial removals, packing, loading, transport, unloading, and storage of goods.
Policy Aims
The aim of this policy is to prevent injury, ill health, and damage to property arising from our moving and handling operations. We will ensure that health and safety considerations are integrated into all aspects of planning and delivering our removal services. Our objectives include complying with relevant health and safety legislation, promoting a culture of safety, and continually improving our management of risk.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management at Mayfair Movers holds overall responsibility for health and safety performance. Management will provide clear leadership, set safety standards, allocate appropriate resources, and ensure that this policy is implemented and reviewed regularly. Supervisors are responsible for day-to-day safety on site, including the coordination of teams, confirming that risk assessments are followed, and ensuring that work is carried out in a safe and controlled manner.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Staff must follow safety instructions, use equipment properly, report hazards and incidents, and co operate with management on all health and safety matters. Employees are expected to wear appropriate personal protective equipment when required and to participate fully in training and safety briefings.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Mayfair Movers conducts risk assessments for our removal and related services to identify potential hazards such as manual handling risks, access issues, traffic movements, and the handling of fragile or heavy items. These assessments inform safe systems of work tailored to each job. Where necessary, we will carry out site visits in advance to assess access points, stairs, lifts, parking, and any specific client requirements. The findings of risk assessments will be communicated to the teams involved and reviewed whenever there are significant changes in working practices or conditions.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is central to removal activities, and we recognise the importance of minimising the risk of strains, sprains, and other musculoskeletal injuries. Staff are trained in correct lifting and carrying techniques, including team lifts for heavy or awkward items. We will use appropriate handling aids such as trolleys, sack barrows, moving straps, and ramps to reduce manual effort wherever reasonably practicable. Items will be packed, wrapped, and stacked with stability and safe access in mind, taking into account the weight and fragility of goods.
Vehicles, Driving, and Road Safety
Our vehicles are maintained to a high standard to help ensure safety and reliability during removals and transport. Drivers are required to hold appropriate licences, follow safe driving practices, and comply with traffic laws and company procedures. Loads must be correctly distributed, secured, and checked before departure, with particular attention to preventing movement of goods during transit. Routes and schedules will be planned to reduce unnecessary risks and to allow for safe loading and unloading at properties and premises.
Workplace and Site Safety
Whether working at our base, in homes, offices, or storage facilities, we will take reasonable steps to maintain safe working conditions. This includes keeping walkways clear, managing trip hazards such as loose packaging materials, and controlling vehicle and pedestrian movements during loading and unloading. Where required, barriers, signage, or other control measures will be used to protect the public and clients from moving vehicles, lifting operations, or stacked goods. Access points such as stairs, corridors, and doorways will be checked and used in a way that minimises risk of collision or obstruction.
Training, Information, and Supervision
Mayfair Movers provides appropriate health and safety training to all employees, including induction for new starters and refresher training when necessary. Training covers manual handling, correct use of equipment, vehicle safety, emergency procedures, and general safe working practices within the removals industry. Clear instructions and information are given before and during each job, and supervision is provided to ensure that agreed procedures are followed.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, near misses, and hazardous situations must be reported promptly so that causes can be investigated and corrective actions taken. Records of incidents will be kept and reviewed to identify any patterns or recurring issues. Emergency procedures, including responding to injuries, fire, or road incidents, will be communicated to staff. First aid provisions will be maintained in our vehicles or at work locations where reasonably practicable.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
We encourage feedback from employees and customers on health and safety matters relating to our removal services. Suggestions for improving safety are welcomed and will be considered by management. This policy, along with associated procedures and risk assessments, will be reviewed at regular intervals and updated where needed to reflect changes in legislation, industry best practice, and operational experience.
Policy Availability and Review
This Health and Safety Policy is available to all employees and to customers who request information about our safety standards. It reflects our commitment to carrying out removal work in a professional, responsible, and safe manner. The policy will be reviewed periodically and revised as necessary to ensure that it remains effective, relevant, and aligned with our commitment to safeguarding people, property, and the environment during all Mayfair Movers operations.
